The vacancy rate remained flat since 2007, at 14.3%. In the first quarter in 2008 more than 100,000 square feet of sublease space was absorbed over all the submarkets. The 8.7% vacancy rate is the lowest since the third quarter 2001. Assuming modest net absorption of 500,000 square feet per year, the vacancy rate will continue to decline. With this Boston remains one of the premier places to find and rent office space.
